A native of California,
Marc Cerri earned his Bachelor of Music degree in
Horn Performance from San Francisco State University, where he studied Horn
with Bill Klingelhoffer and Bob Ward and conducting with J. Karla Lemon.
While in school, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Oakland Youth
Orchestra (CA) and participated in the Altenberg Music Festival (Germany) as
Assistant Conductor of the East-West International Symphony Orchestra. Upon
graduating in 1995, Marc moved to New York to co-found and direct the
Manhattan Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, during which time he continued his
conducting studies at The Juilliard School with Vincent La Selva. Currently,
Marc plays horn in several New York City orchestras, is co-founder and
hornist for the Eastern Winds quintet, serves as Assistant Conductor of the
Centre Symphony and is the Music Librarian for the 92nd St. Y Orchestra. He
also owns and operates the music publishing company M.J. Cerri (www.mjcerri.com)
which focuses on wind music from the 18th century to the present.
Susanne Chen, of Chinese heritage, was born and
raised in German Switzerland. She started playing the bassoon at the age of
19 and studied privately with Manfred Sax in Zurich. She moved to New York
in 1997 and continued private instruction with Kim Laskowski. This past
fall, she began undergraduate diploma studies at the Mannes College of Music
under the tutelage of Marc Goldberg. An active freelancer, Susanne has
worked with a variety of groups, including the Conductors’ Institute
Orchestra at Bard College and the Spectrum Symphony. She is a founding
member of the Eastern Winds quintet and has participated in master classes
with Patricia Rogers and Linda Harwell. Susanne is also very involved in the
avant-garde jazz scene where she has performed with Michael Rabinowitz,
Butch Morris, and the Quantum Group. She can be heard on composer/violist
Jessica Pavone’s album "27 Epigrams" (available at www.peacockrecords.com).
Additionally, Susanne holds graduate degrees in Information Systems and
Psychology and works part-time as a web designer and computer programmer.
She also owns and operates the web site www.bassoons.com.
